The six foot photo taken by Andrew Sheppard from Wellesbourne’s Avon Studios of a couple tying the knot in Zanzibar, was used as the backdrop to a conference aimed at helping photographers develop their skills in wedding and portrait work.
The Photo Training Overseas conference, now in its 19th year, saw 150 photographers from the UK and Europe descend on a hotel in in Madeira last week. In previous years it has taken places in Lanzarote, Cyprus and Tunisia and next year’s event will be held in Morocco.
Katerina Paphitis from the main conference sponsor Fujfilm, who chose Andrew’s work, explained: “The image was so stunning and contemporary we just had to pick it – it stood out a mile, head and shoulders above the other options. It was full of such passion and energy and zest for life that it summed up completely what the conference was all about and what we are encouraging our photographers to capture in their work.”
Andrew added: “I was chuffed when Fujifilm chose my image. I guess it was because not only did it capture the flavour of the conference – photography in a sunny climate – it was also a fresh, exciting and spontaneous picture and reflected the ethos of the training workshops in which I was involved.”
